Indian Rupee Symbol - Indian Currency Symbol
The Indian Rupee is all set to join the group of elite currencies like the US dollar, euro, British pound and Japanese yen in having a distinct identity. The Indian Rupee is all set to have its own unique symbol. The cabinet approved the new Rupee symbol which was designed by Bombay D Udaya Kumar, an IIT post-graduate. The Rupee symbol is a blend of the Devanagri 'Ra' and Roman 'R' without the stem and two parallel lines running at the top. The parallel lines symbolise the equal to sign.
